Fairtrade

Camborne is special - Camborne is a Fairtrade Community.
We used to be a Fairtrade Town but the Fairtrade Foundation changed the name.
Every time you purchase Fairtrade produce in Camborne you support your local trader whilst, at the same time, helping farming communities in poor parts of the world take a step towards a brighter future.

What does this say about Camborne and its people?

  • The Town Council actively supports Fairtrade, highlights it in events and celebrates Fairtrade Fortnight

  • BID Camborne values Fairtrade as an element that sets Camborne apart from so many other towns. The BID Board supports Fairtrade as do many of the business members

  • Christians Together, which represents the churches in Camborne, values Fairtrade and Fairtrade will feature in many of their events across the town even if it is just the tea or coffee you are drinking

  • There is always a Fairtrade element on Trevithick Day. Fairtrade will be there at the Christmas Tree Festival, at the Big Green Fest, on Apple Day and at events in
Camborne Library through the year. It is not just for Fairtrade Fortnight!

  • Our schools support Fairtrade in many ways with assemblies and activities. A special mention must go St Johns school which has been an active supporter from the very beginning and is a Fairtrade Achiever School.

Fairtrade is now part of the life of Camborne.

This shows in the generosity of its people and
their growing knowledge and support. The questions at the start of our journey used to be
about what Fairtrade is and what it does. Now, more often than not, conversations start with
what Fairtrade items they buy.

We try to do a little more each year in Camborne. Try to buy as much Fairtrade as you can,
even one item helps. If you are a business all you have to do is have two Fairtrade items
readily available. If you are a community group support Fairtrade in whatever way you can.
30 years ago it all started with Fairtrade Coffee. Now there are over 4,500 Fairtrade products
available.

If you want to host a Fairtrade event, become a Fairtrade business or just want to find out
more about Fairtrade, our Fairtrade Co-ordinator, Brian Terry, is always there to help. As a
first step, you can email him at goterrydev@aol.com
